Ana Maier
Eu nasci em Belo Horizonte, Brasil. Atualmente vivo e trabalho em São Paulo. Comecei meus estudos como pesquisadora botânica, no Instituto de Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. No entanto, recebi meu bacharelado em Escultura em 1998 pela Escola de Belas Artes dessa universidade; e um mestrado em Artes Visuais em 2013 pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. De 1992 a 2014, trabalhei como professora de arte em escolas e workshops em instituições públicas e privadas em Belo Horizonte e Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil; e também em Stuttgart, na Alemanha. Frequentei cursos livres da Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, no Rio de Janeiro em 2010 e participei de três edições do Festival de Inverno de Ouro Preto, de 1995 a 1997. Desde os anos 90 realizei várias exposições coletivas e duas individuais no Brasil. Atualmente investigo a superfície de contato entre o homem e seus territórios, sua relação com as paisagens naturais e urbanas. Ao desconstruir cartografias, tecidos, livros e ao resignificar objetos cotidianos antigos, procuro reinventar os horizontes e questionar os limites territoriais. Em meus objetos em técnica mista, a linha de bordado se rompe, se multiplica, se expande, se dissolve e sugere passagens. Eu altero escalas e relações espaciais para descobrir outras possibilidades e expressar novos significados. O que me move é o desejo profundo de uma integração real entre as pessoas e a liberdade de ir e vir em nosso mundo.

About the artist
I was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Currently I live and work in Sao Paulo. I began my studies as a botanical researcher at the Institute of Biological Sciences, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. However, I received my bachelor’s degree in sculpture in 1998 from the School of Fine Arts of that university; and an MA in Visual Arts in 2013 from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From 1992 to 2014 I worked as an art teacher in schools and workshops in public and private institutions in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and in Stuttgart, Germany. I attended free courses at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro in 2010 and participated in three editions of the Ouro Preto Winter Festival from 1995 to 1997. Since the 90s I took part in several group exhibitions and made two solo exhibitions in Brazil. Currently I investigate the contact surface between man and its territories, its relationship with the natural and urban landscapes. By deconstructing cartographies, textiles, books and reframe old everyday objects, I try to reinvent the horizons and challenge the boundaries. In my objects in mixed media technique, the embroidery thread breaks, multiplies, expands, dissolves and it show new ways. I change scales and spatial relationships to discover other possibilities and express new meanings. What moves me is the profound desire for a real integration among people and the freedom to come and go in our world.
